You know the drill by now

Cartoon Study # 5 1/2-ish

wait no you don't nobody even knows this blog exists

Anyway tired as hell at the moment so all I have to show for it is this half-finished and probably way off (I think the details are mostly accurate, but the proportions/relation of the arms/head is wrong since it always is in these studies of mine) Tom.

On the plus side I was following this old John K. blogpost on 'solid' construction while half working on this, so at least I have a slightly more structured method to work through for these studies from here on out.

Even more cartoon studies

Cartoon Studies #3

Just a 'classic' study this time since I couldn't decide on what to use as a modern example for tonight.

Actually really happy with it since sans a few small proportion errors I got very close to the original model sheet. I think my main problem is relation the different parts of a character/scene to one another correctly, since the first drawing each element such as the face was mostly right, but as a whole it was far off.

More Cartoon Studies

Cartoon Studies #2

I think the main problem I had with the above (and the final attempt drawn on the left side is still quite a ways off) is working out the relationship between the shape of Bug's head and... Uh, whatshisname. Individually they weren't too far off from the screencap I was using, but together the way I'd even slightly positioned the characters wrong would send everything off balance. Need to keep mind of negative spaces more!

This was based off what I *think* were a page of inked sketches Katie Rice did from her work on El Tigre. It's late and I can't be bothered to even attempt inking in this state, but it's interesting/infuriating to myself how even a slight amount of stylisation can completely throw off how I'm supposed to use guidelines on a character's face/body.

A couple new cartoon studies

Cartoon Studies #1

Just figured I'd start balancing between some 'classic' animation practices along with more contemporary examples. Both of these I did before class yesterday, and while neither wound up perfect, they got 'close'. Might wind up trying to perfect them later but I think this is a good way to try and teach myself some decent construction without restricting myself solely to Golden Age stuff.
